Integrated voltage detecting system Wega VDIS
Further development of the integrated voltage detecting systems
The Wega series in accordance with the IEC 62271-213 standard ensures maximum operational safety for network personnel
Is voltage present or absent? This question is fundamental and a precise answer is vital when service or maintenance personnel are working on switchgear and cables. The integrated voltage testing systems, such as the Wega series, are permanently installed in the equipment or can be retrofitted. Due to the permanent monitoring and display of the interface conditions, repeat testing is not necessary and the WEGA series is therefore maintenance-free.
Horstmann has further developed its proven Wega series for the new international VDIS standard IEC 62271-213 (VDIS – Voltage Detecting and Indicating System) in line with the change in standard.
The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) stands for global standards in the field of electrical engineering, electronics and information technology and unites an international network of over 170 countries and 20,000 experts on a neutral and independent standardisation platform. As a non-profit organisation, the IEC has been helping to establish electrotechnical standards at an international level since 1906. Horstmann is actively involved in working groups of the IEC. The new Wega series permanently tests for your safety and reliably determines the voltage status in accordance with IEC 62271-213 in medium-voltage switchgear.
It has the same electrical properties as the previous Wega series, which can be easily switched over to the new Wega VDIS series. The proven quality and durability of this safety-relevant product has of course been maintained and is ensured, a.o., by the complete encapsulation of the electronics.
Optimised functional details of the Wega series in accordance to IEC 62271-2
In addition to adapting to the new standard, handling has also been optimized. The new tool-free assembly, which was developed at the customer’s request, is particularly worth mentioning here. This offers major time and cost benefits, particularly in series production. The extended temperature range of -40°C to +75°C facilitates worldwide use. Thanks to optimized connections, all connecting cables to the Horstmann short-circuit direction indicators are now equipped with an AMP connector for each switchgear. The connection of the capacitive tap, on the other hand, can still be carried out with AMP plugs or flat plugs by the switchgear manufacturer.
Wega 1 and Wega 1 V
Wega 1 and Wega 1 V are three-phase voltage detecting systems that display medium-voltage states. The display test function built into the front allows the display to be tested in the installed and voltage-free state. Shielded and unshielded cables with flat plugs or system plugs can be connected.
Novelties:
- Bracket for tool-free mounting
- 2 connection options (AMP/flat plug) – Can be used universally for all medium-voltage switchgear
- Optimized display contrast, extended temperature range and display test
- Safe voltage transfer to the directional fault indicator (AMP OUT)
Wega 2 and 2 V
Wega 2 and Wega 2 V have the same range of functions as Wega 1 and Wega 1 V, but also have two additional LED indicators (green U=0 and red U≠0) on the front. The voltage status of the system field can be signalled remotely or used for interlocking purposes via two independent relay contacts.
Further development of Vario variants
The Wega Vario has also been further developed and now contains 15 adjustable capacitance values that can be very easily set phase-selectively using integrated rotary switches. Horstmann is thus launching a particularly user-friendly and quickly adjustable product onto the market.
A completely new version of the Vario family is the Wega 2 V, which combines the Vario function with relay outputs for remote signalling and was previously not available in this form factor.

Summary
Personnel safety is our top priority. In order to be among the best in the world when it comes to voltage testing and monitoring systems in medium-voltage networks, we develop and produce future-proof products that are above all easy to use. The new Wega series from Horstmann, in accordance with the international VDIS standard IEC 62271-213, is an advanced solution for permanently monitoring the voltage status in medium-voltage switchgear. The Wega 1 and Wega 2 models are three-phase voltage detecting systems with optimised functional details, improved connection options and an extended temperature application range. The Wega Vario variants have been further developed and now enable phase-selective settings for up to 15 adjustable capacitance values. A new variant, the Wega 2 V, combines the Vario function with relay outputs for remote signalling. All products in the Wega series are characterised by “Made in Germany” quality, tool-free installation, integrated repeat testing and fully encapsulated electronics. Horstmann also offers short delivery times.
