Future trends in the energy industry
We were at E-world energy & water ⚡️, Europe’s leading energy industry trade fair in Essen. Over 820 exhibitors from 27 countries will be presenting sustainable innovations and technologies for the future of energy supply from February 20-22.
We have observed these trends – and although they are not new, they will continue to play a significant role in the energy industry in the future:
Digitalization and smart grids:
Advancing digitalization offers more opportunities when it comes to controlling and monitoring electricity grids. Distribution grid operators are increasingly investing in smart grid technologies in order to increase efficiency, better integrate renewable energies and minimize outages. Low-voltage monitoring has also gained enormously in importance.
Integration of renewable energies:
In view of the energy transition and the increasing share of renewable energy sources, the focus is on the flexible and reliable integration of these energies into the distribution grids.
Electromobility + heat pumps and grid load:
With the increasing spread of heat pumps and electric vehicles, the challenge of managing the additional load while ensuring grid stability is growing.
Energy storage:
The development and integration of energy storage systems to compensate for fluctuations in energy generation and increase security of supply is becoming increasingly important.
Cybersecurity:
As the grid infrastructure becomes increasingly digitalized and networked, protection against cyberattacks is becoming more important in order to ensure the reliability and security of the energy supply.
